The Master's Harvest

News Letter #19

Hello,
On October 2nd, 2016 we completed the Deerfield Fair at Deerfield, New Hampshire.  We talked to 567 people over 4 days.
Several people from Faith Fellowship spent the day with us and made that possible, and we are grateful for their much needed assistance.
During the evening rush, we had 5 groups of test takers going at one time, 2 groups in the tent and 3 groups outside.
We talked to 202 people in one day, so we should consider renting a larger space next year and buying a bigger tent.
Many people would not come into the booth, so we gave them the test standing in front of the tent.

We talked to many atheists and found we should have a one page apologetics and biblical explanation for why God is real.
We talked to a pagan priest for over an hour about how we know God and the bible are true.
Also the pagan priest and several other people asked “What do you think the bible say about homosexuality?”
The best answer is to have them read the appropriate bible verses so they can draw their own conclusions.
Otherwise, they say your answer “ is just your opinion.”  And at least they will have read some bible verses.
We are always looking for ways to improve the ministry.  Please send us your ideas and new fairs to apply to.
Please pray for everyone who visited our booth.

God Bless,
David A. Leak

News Letter #18

Hello,

On September 25th, 2016 we completed the Farmington Fair at Farmington, Maine.  We talked to 288 people over 7 days.

We have one urgent need that arose during the fair.  An older lady, Frances, wants to do a Bible study in Canaan, Maine.

Currently she is studying the Bible with a Jehovah Witness and is being led astray.  She was told Jesus is an angel.

She ask for Bible verses showing Jesus is God, so we gave her “The Deity and Humanity of Christ”, by Pastor Harris.  See attachment.

Also, we gave her our Jehovah Witness write up, the Trinity explanation using a triangle, and a Venn diagram.  Also attached below.

Whoever studies the Bible with her must be able to counter the arguments of the Jehovah Witness and answer Frances’s questions.

We have her phone number and address, and if you would like to help her or if you know someone who can help, please contact us.

We had two very memorable encounters during this fair.  The first occurred in front of the booth with a loud, confrontational atheist.

Wearing a Freedom From Religion Foundation button, an atheist asked how I knew that God exists.

I explained there are 14 logical arguments for God’s existence.  I also quoted Oxford biologist Richard Dawkins:

“Biology is the study of complicated things that give the appearance of having been designed for a purpose.”
And I quoted Nobel laureate Francis Crick:
“Biologists must constantly keep in mind that what they see was not designed, but rather evolved.”

He then stated that we did not know if God was male or female and when I started to answer he repeatedly yelled a crude question.

I attempted to explain that God is a spirit and reveals himself in the Bible as male, but he just kept shouting the crude question.

After what seamed like an eternity, I finally responded that Jesus Christ is God and a man.  He was silent for a moment.

Then he demanded the same answer for God the Father.  I explained that God the Father is a spirit and does not have a physical body.

At this point, the atheist’s mortified wife, who had been trying to get her husband to stop interrupting and listen to my explanations, left.

The atheist then demanded I prove God exists in 5 seconds and began to repeatedly yelled “Prove It!”.

I said “Prove Darwinian evolution in 5 seconds.”  After I counted to 5, he blurted out, “Fossils!”

Then he complained I was not taking the “conversation” seriously.

I then asked him, “What evidence would you accept for the existence of God?”  He answered that he wanted a miracle.

I responded, “Like somebody rising from the dead? Like Jesus Christ did?”

His response was that we did not even know that Jesus was real and that he wanted archeological proof that the Bible was true.

I answered, “There are 92 historically proven facts in the book of Acts and 64 historically proven facts in the book of John.

We also know more about Jesus, both from Christian and non-Christian sources, than we know about Caesar Tiberius.

When historians use the seven historical evaluations to determine if a document if true or not, the Bible passes all seven.”

The atheist, quieted by the evidence in by these arguments, walked away muttering that he wouldn’t believe any of the evidence.

All the explanations I used are found in the book “I Don’t Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist”.  I can not recommend it highly enough.

It can be found at https://www.amazon.com/Dont-Have-Enough-Faith-Atheist/dp/1581345615.

The only way to top this “conversation” would be if we were lucky enough to talk to god in the flesh.  And we did.

When we asked an older man if he had broken any of the Ten Commandments, he said,  “No, I have never broken any of these.”

“I am perfect because I am God.”  He continued, “I see you as perfect, for you are God as well, even if you don’t know that yet.”

“Your sub-conscience is one with God and your mind is everything, your fleshly body doesn’t matter.”

“You are a spirit and your are born again when you enter your fleshly body and your mother gives birth to you.”

He claimed to have studied the Bible, theology, astrophysics, quantum-physics, and meta-physics.

He said that we are blind and confused like children, and we needed to grow and go on this spiritual journey.

He promised that we would have good health, long life, wealth, and happiness, as he had.

After we completed this journey, he said “you will become like me.”  We politely declined.

One of the last conversations Bethany had was with an older lady who was seeking advice on Baptism.

She was saved but had been told that she had to be baptized or she wasn’t saved and was going to Hell.

I explained to her that our salvation comes solely through Jesus Christ (Romans 6:23, 10:9-10).

I also said that Baptism was an act of obedience to Jesus Christ after becoming saved.

Other than that, there was nothing unusual or unique about this fair.

We were in the commercial building, and few people stopped to talk.  On the first day, only 6 people asked to take the test.

So we changed tactics and took turns standing in front of the booth and handing out several tracts to those who walked by.

Those tracts included the “Tickets to Heaven and Hell”, “Your Life”, “Innocent or Guilty”, and “Contradict”.

And easily 2/3 of the tests were given standing in the front of the booth, or to people we invited in after handing them a tract.

We met almost as many Christians as non-Christians.  We did not count the Christians in our total of tests given.

We also met many people who thought they were Christians, had been baptized, but did not know about salvation.

We counted them and we gave them the “Pretender” tract found here:  http://www.tractplanet.com/Pretender-Tract_p_240.html or

http://shop.onemilliontracts.com/Pretender-Tract-5×3-100-ct-pckg-TP-008.htm

There were four church booths at this fair: two Baptist churches, a Seventh-Day Adventist church, and a Reformed Presbyterian church.

There was also a Gideons booth and a Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) booth.

Please pray for everyone who visited our booth.

God Bless,

News Letter #17

Hello,

On September 11th, 2016 we completed the Clinton Lions Fair at Clinton, Maine.  We talked to 90 people over 4 days.

There was nothing unusual or unique about this fair.  We met several Christians, and one other church group was at the fair.

We gave the attachment below, “Bible Verses – Salvation by Grace” to many Catholics or people that believe in good works.

The book “I Don’t Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist” was useful when debating the many teenage atheists who stopped by.

We talked to many young people at this fair.  Please pray for them and everyone else who visited our booth.

We will need the most help at our next large fair, the Deerfield Fair (NH).

If you are planing to join us at a fair, that one will have a lot of activity and opportunity to learn and practice.

News Letter #16

Hello,

On September 5th, 2016 we completed the Hopkinton State Fair at Hopkinton, New Hampshire.  We talked to 426 people over 5 days.

Several people from Faith Fellowship spent the day with us and made that possible, and we are grateful for their much needed assistance.

During the evening rush, we had 4 groups of test takers going at one time, 2 groups in the tent and 2 groups outside.

We talked to 173 people in one day, so we should consider renting a larger space next year.

We have met many people who feel that the murder or torture of children is acceptable behavior for other people.

It is not acceptable for them, of course, but they refuse to judge others and the proof of God by the existence of absolute moral laws does not work for them.

I am considering asking them if this is an absolute moral law: “It is wrong for one person to judge another person.”

In today’s relativistic world, that may be the only absolute moral law for some people.

We talked to the people in the Jehovah Witness booth at the fair.  We are persona-non-grata to them.

We showed them the Venn diagram of God and several Bible verses over a 1.5 hour discussion.

They claimed the question “Is Jesus a true or false god?” was not a legitimate question.

They never did explain if Jesus is a god, angel, human.  They seemed to imply He was a human with divine attributes.

If there is a next time, I’m going to ask: “How many divine attributes can a human have before he becomes a god?”

And “What was Jesus before He took on flesh and dwelt among us? Spirit? Angel?”

We talked to a former Baptist who became a Pagan.  He believes there has to be both a god and a goddess.

He said that women had to be created by a female god because women were too complicated for a male god to create.

I asked how he knew this.  He said he and his friends sat around and talked about it.  He quickly left after that answer.

You have to wonder if you are being trolled because it is hard to fathom that someone really believes these things are true.

I have come to the conclusion that I should ask everyone I talk to about their good deeds out-weighing their bad deeds.

This appears to be a common idea among both “Christians” and non-Christians. We gave away at least 50 copies of “Bible Verses – Salvation by Grace”.

I ask people to read Galatians 2:21, “I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, the Christ died in vain.”

Then I ask: “Do you want to stand before God on judgement day and tell Him that His Son’s sacrifice on the cross was not good enough for you?”

We talked to a young pregnant lady who came in with her boyfriend to take the test.  She listened to the Gospel and was greatly affected by it.

She shared that she was a recovering drug addict, who had a 1 year old son, and that she was struggling greatly in her life and needed to hear this.

She mentioned how strange it was that she should stop by our booth and hear the Gospel, since several bad things had happened in the past couple of weeks.

She thanked us warmly for everything.  We gave her a “Why Christianity?”, a New Testament, and the book “God Has A Wonderful Plan For Your Life.”

We talked for a long time to another young lady about serious personal issues.

She was very grateful and took a “Why Christianity?” and “Finding Help in the Bible.”

We will need the most help at our next large fair, the Deerfield Fair (NH).

If you are planing to join us at a fair, that one will have a lot of activity and opportunity to learn and practice.

News Letter #15

Hello,

On August 28th, 2016 we completed the Acton Fair at Acton, Maine.  We talked to 127 people over 4 days.

We talked to two girls, one a Pagan and on a Universal Unitarian.  Both were receptive to the Morality Argument for God.

One said “Oh, I get it.” when we explained it to her.  Both left agreeing that there might be a God.

This is the moral argument for God.  If the first 3 premises are true, then the conclusion has to be true.

1) All laws require a law giver.

2) All absolute or universal laws require an absolute or universal law giver.

3) There are universal laws. Ex. Don’t torture children for fun.

Conclusion:  There is an absolute or universal law giver.

This is discussed in more detail in the book, “I Don’t Have Enough Faith To Be an Atheist”.

We talked with another pagan who asked the question, “Who wrote the Bible?”.  We get this attack on the Bible a lot.

I answered that God told the humans what to write, and humans wrote the Bible.  I then answered a question with a question.

I asked “Who wrote your physics textbook? Chemistry? Biology? History? Do you trust them?”

I also used another argument for the esistance of God, I call the DNA/SETI analogy.  I goes like this:

The Search for ExtraTerrestrial Intelligence (SETI) program uses radio antenna to search for life in outer space.

What are they looking for?  Answer: A sequence of numbers or a non-random pattern of signals.

This indicates a language that is conveying information.

What is DNA?  Answer: A non-random pattern that conveys information.  So why isn’t DNA proof of Intelligence?

If we detected these signals, would we know what they mean? Answer: No.  We would have to learn the new language.

A newborn child will learn a language when someone shows them the meaning of each word, or pattern.

For DNA: Who taught the first living cell the meaning of the DNA patterns?  Who decided what each pattern meant?

When talking to Catholics, I learned that you should not say that “Salvation is by grace and not works.”

It starts an argument and many times they will not read the bible verses.

Through trial and error, I have found that I should ask them if they think good deeds or works earn salvation.

I then say something like “I have some bible verses that talk about salvation and works.”

I then show them the verses that explain that salvation can only be gained by grace.

This gets them to read at least the first three verses on the handout “Salvation by Grace”.

At the fair there were many church booths, the Gideons, and Child Evangelism Fellowship.

We met people from several churches in the area who stopped by and talked and encouraged us each day.

Pastor Bob stopped by on the last day and asked how it was going.  I explained we had not done as well as last year.

He replied that it is not about how many people you talk to, but each person is a divine appointment.

After we had taken down the tent, I was loading up a dolly the signs, tables and chairs to take to the car.

A very pregnant young girl walked up and wanted to take the test.  So I gave it to her standing there.

After the test, she explained that she was going to give her unborn daughter up for adoption.

She could not afford to take care of her.  I pointed out there was help available to care for newborns, like Carenet.

She divulged that she was sick, having an operation after childbirth, and would then be bed-ridden for 6 to 12 months.

I gave her a Bible and a copy of “Finding Help in the Bible”.  Please pray for her and all the people we talked to.

We will need the most help at the Hopkinton Fair (NH), and the Deerfield Fair (NH).

If you are planing to join us at a fair, those 2 fairs will have the most activity and opportunity to learn and practice.

News Letter #14

Hello,

On August 13th, 2016 we completed the Addison County Fair and Field Days at Addison, Vermont.
We talked to 221 people over 5 days.  There were a few church booths and the Gideons.
We met people from several churches in the area who stopped by and talked and encouraged us every day.

We had an encounter with an older Catholic women who got upset with us constantly quoting Scripture verses.
She exclaimed “Forget the Bible!!! Tell me what you think!!”.  We explained that Salvation can only come by hearing God’s Word.
And, apart from God’s word, our words would be insufficient.

We have been talking to a lot of Catholics this year, and we had a long conversation with a young woman and her boyfriend.
The young woman absolutely refused to consider the idea that her good works were not getting her into heaven.
She rejected Christ’s full atonement for sin, saying that she had to do certain works to be saved.
In James it says, “Law to the proud, and grace to the humble.”  Her pride was her stumbling block.
She was positive that she was a good person going to heaven through her good deeds.
She was not moved at all by the Scripture verses demonstrating salvation by grace.
We showed many verses to her, but she didn’t want to believe them.
Eventually, she left, saying that she was a Catholic and wasn’t going to change.

One young man, who had talked with us on one day, came back the following day and asked questions.
He was searching for answers and we talked with him at some length.

We had a very interesting encounter with a Native American woman, who believed in the old religion of her people.
We had never talked with a person who had held those beliefs and were not sure what to say to her.
But we did give the Good Person test to her and then listened as she explained some of her beliefs.
On August 21st, 2016 we completed the Cornish Fair at Cornish, New Hampshire.
We talked to 152 people over 3 days.  Over the three days, we talked to several Atheists.
We are thankful for the knowledge we gained from the book, I Don’t Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist” by Frank Turek and Norman Geisller.
We also talked with a Pagan young man.  As he explained it, Pagans believe in the gods of Nature.
Those are the gods of the Greek Mythology, Chronos, Gaia, etc.
As with the Wiccans, we explained that these gods, who were created, are false gods and that there is only one true God.
We will need the most help at the Hopkinton Fair (NH), and the Deerfield Fair (NH).
If you are planing to join us at a fair, those 2 fairs will have the most activity and opportunity to learn and practice.

News Letter #13

Hello,

On August 7th, 2016 we completed the Ulster County Fair at Ulster, New York.  We talked to 465 people over 6 days.
We met a Muslim woman who came back for a second conversation.  She was raised Muslim, but tried Mormonism as well.
She had been abused when a child and was wandering from religion to religion.
She eagerly took a “Why Does God Allow Suffering? and “Why Christianity”, both by Ray Comfort at LivingWaters.com
We met a spiritualist who believes god is love, pure love, and nothing else. I talked to him for 30 minutes and got nowhere.
Pastor Harris asked the spiritualist “would a father would discipline his son?”  The spiritualist left after that question.
Pastor Harris put together a “Good Person Test for Those Who Do Not Believe the Bible”.  A copy is attached below.
We used this very effectively to talk to other people who thought humans make morality.
We talked to many atheists who also could not pass this version of the “Are You a Good Person? test.

We met several Jewish people who believed that oral tradition supersedes the Torah.
And one did not believe the Torah at all, and though she called herself “a Jew”, did not follow the religion.
Several Jewish people said the 9th commandment is about slander, not bearing false witness.

We talked to several Roman Catholics and gave them the handout “Bible Verses – Salvation by Grace”.  A copy is below.
One woman talked at length with my daughter and grew very concerned that her works would not save her.
She asked “How are you saved?” and the answer from Matthew 19:25-26 was very reassuring.
She agreed that she wanted her salvation to rest on God and not man and thanked my daughter sincerely as she left.
We are listening to a book “I Don’t Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist” by by Norman Geisler and Frank Turek.
I highly recommend it if you want to talk to people who do not believe in God.  It can be found at:
We will need the most help at the Addison County Fair (VT), Hopkinton Fair (NH), and the Deerfield Fair (NH).
If you are planing to join us at a fair, those 3 fairs will have the most activity and opportunity to learn and practice.

News Letter #12

Hello,

On July 31st, 2016 we completed the North Haverhill Fair at North Haverhill, New Hampshire.
We talked to 278 people over 5 days.  This is almost 3 times more than we talked to last year (95).
If we had more workers, we could have bought a larger booth and given the test to more people.
We tested 105 people in one evening, with only 2 people giving the test.
Many people waited to be tested, but many walked away without hearing the gospel because of the wait.
We met many Dartmouth College students who were atheists.  They made these types of statements which are self contradictory:
    “You can not know anything”, which means you don’t know this statement is true;
    “There are no absolutes”, which means this statement is not absolute;
“I do not have free will”, which I concluded with my free will and freely expressed.
We also met 3 Wiccan (witches) who worship the sun and moon and cast spells to keep good spirits in and to keep bad spirits out.
Spirits are not very powerful if any witch can force them to do what she wants.
They explained that the sun and moon gods were created when the sun and moon were created by evolution.
We explained that a created god is by definition a false god, because the creator has the real power.
I used the example of a pen which I can make a “god” to solve math problems, but is a lousy speller.
This same “god” in my daughter’s hand hates math and spells well.
They realized their “gods” were false gods and walked out.
Updated versions of the handouts for homosexuals, Jehovah Witnesses, and Salvation by Grace are below in PDF.
If you want a “.doc” or a “.pages” of the latest version, let me know.
The next 2 weeks will be the busiest of the year.  We travel to 2 fairs and will be at fairs for 12 of the next 14 days.
We will need the most help at the Ulster County Fair (NY), Addison County Fair (VT), Hopkinton Fair (NH), and the Deerfield Fair (NH).
If you are planing to join us at a fair, those 4 fairs will have the most activity and opportunity to learn and practice.

News Letter #11

Hello,
On July 24, 2016 we completed the Pittston Fair at Pittston, Maine.  We talked to 84 people over 4 days.
We met 2 deaf people, so I was glad for all the verses we had written down ahead of time.
We talked to an LDS/Morman who believed in salvation by grace, not of works, which was a surprise.
We learned from a couple of Seven Day Adventists that they do not believe in the existence of physical hell.
We met many Christians and they recommended the local churches listed below.
Life Community Church led the church service at the fair on Sunday.
During the night a storm blew down our tent.  See picture below.  We had a spare tent as we knew the tent was old.
Nothing was damaged but the tent frame, which was a total loss.
The next 3 weeks will be the busiest of the year.  We travel to 3 fairs and will be at fairs for 19 of the next 21 days.
We will need the most help at the Ulster County Fair (NY), Addison County Fair (VT), Hopkinton Fair (NH), and the Deerfield Fair (NH).
If you are planing to join us at a fair, those 4 fairs will have the most activity and opportunity to learn and practice.
God Bless,

News Letter #10

Hello,

On June 6th, 2016 we completed the Vermont Dairy Festival at Enousburg Falls, Vermont.  We talked to 49 people over 3 days.

We gave away write ups covering “Homosexuality”, “Salvation by Grace”, and “Jehovah Witness”.  They can be found at the end of this newsletter.

On June 6th, 2016 we completed the Bradford Fair at Bradford, Vermont.  We talked to 48 people over 4 days.  We were inside a building, so the weather was not a problem, but being out of the way reduced the number of people that visited.  The strangest question we got was “What do you think of the presidential candidates?”.  My answer did not to endorse any candidate because I was not running a political booth.  I explained how each candidate is acting in a non-biblical way and wished them well choosing a candidate to vote for.  We should expect those types of questions this year.

We met a christian selling ice cream and a christian performing as Buddy The Clown who can be found at buddytheclown.com

We will need the most help at the Ulster County Fair (NY), Addison County Fair (VT), Hopkinton Fair (NH), and the Deerfield Fair (NH).
If you are planing to join us at a fair, those 4 fairs will have the most activity and the least amount of down time (boredom).
God Bless,
David A. Leak
